Bill Areshenkott
Honorary Visual Artist of February
Born in Pelly Saskatchewan, Bill moved to the beautiful Creston Valley in March of “92”.
A self-taught woodworking artist of 30 yrs. Bill has made some exquisite pieces from jewelry boxes, eagles and hummingbirds to vases, clocks, antique cars and industrial equipment.
Through trial and error and buying special patterns Bill has perfected his art. He finds woodworking very satisfying and enjoyable. A piece may take him a long time if he makes a lot of mistakes but if things go smoothly it could be less time, for example his eagle only took him 3 weeks to finish. Currently Bill just finished a walnut bowl. He sprays his art with a protective coating usually a minimum of 3 times depends on the piece of wood sometimes 4 to 5 times if needed.
A favorite of Bill’s is when he made his antique cars and the industrial equipment. Surprisingly after a lot of long hours and hard work he was impressed with the outcome. He has sold many of the industrial equipment so far. Bill is showing his woodwork at Park Studio Gallery for the month of February, and he also shows it in Cranbrook at Artisa Niche.
Bill’s oldest pieces in his possession are about 10 yrs old, they are a set of 4 plaques of hummingbirds in different shades and different types of wood.
A favorite book of Bill’s is “The Way to Wholeness” by Ray Stedman, its all about the belief in God and it helps you by getting a better understanding of the bible.
Bill’s tip he would like to share is “Enjoy what you are making”.
